Day 130
I got some great rest at the hotel last night. I took a long day nap, then watched Goodfellas on TV, then went back to sleep. I wanted to be on the road around 2 am. I started at 430 instead. A good start but I had 28 miles to do today and wanted to do it before 2 pm. After that it’s just too hot.
The sun wasn’t up when I started but the full moon was bright enough to see just fine. I felt really cool walking through Kansas at night. I could hear coyotes in the distance. Before long, the sun began to rise. The colors made me stop to see the show. Stunning.
I made great time for the first 20 miles. I surprised myself actually. I entered the mountain time zone. I didn’t even know that I was close to that. I had forgotten all about it. So that was a cool moment.
I started to get pretty tired. I had a lot of hills today actually. I checked my map and was about 8 miles from the hotel in Syracuse. I blasted through as quickly as I could. I had to stop often to cool down but was trying to keep pace before the real heat kicked in. I made it to town and the hotel was closed for renovations. Fuck.
I go next door to a diner called Ramble-N-Restaurant. I got a Ramble-N burger. It was great. I asked the waitress if sh3 had any idea if there were other hotels in town. She didn’t know but offered for me to sleep in her dollhouse. As interesting as that sounded, I was too exhausted to sleep in a room full of creepy dolls trying to kill me.
I went to City Hall and talked to them. They told me I could camp at the park. Yay. (Sarcasm) …
I get there and find a shady spot. I have a water spigot, power for my cell phone, and a shady spot for my tent. That’s all I need. I was happy about it once I got all set up. It’ll be easier for me to get up in the morning. It’s harder to get motivated when you’re in a comfortable hotel room with air conditioning and a bed.
Hopefully an early start will put me into Colorado tomorrow!!!
Colorado! For real!!!! That is just crazy! I cannot believe what unbelievable time you are making! I know it doesn’t seem like it to you, but it is!
