Day 182

Woke up to the sound of geese attacking Lieutenant Dan. It was too cold for me to get out of my sleeping bag so I didn’t do anything about it. I waited a little while for the sun to come up and then packed up. Right as I was walking away a man pulled up and said that he had heard about me and wanted to say hey. I guess out here in the desert where there is no newspaper, word of mouth is how people spread the news. I made sure to tell him everything about the cause. He was looking at me like I was absolutely insane the whole time. It was weird.
I went on into a small town and went grabbed breakfast at a place called Dave’s Trading Post. It was a little store with general items and gas. And a restaurant just because. Super weird. I walked on from there and ran into a family walking to the store from the other direction.
Husband, wife, daughter, and dog. I told them about what I was up to and they said that they are both 4 months clean and trying to start a new life. They’ve moved away from everything they once knew and are trying to clean up. They seemed happy about it. I gave them bracelets and encouragement and rolled on.
Not much happened between there and Salina. Just some pretty views and a lot of walking. I came into town and was a little freaked out. I had a weird vibe about it. It was just something I’ve never seen before. A little town in the middle of Utah mountains.
I got into the downtown area and it was nicer there. I stopped in a cafe for lunch and the staff bought my lunch. I talked to a lot of people while I was in town. Including a man who was claiming that he was sober but had a fresh burn mark on his lip from a pipe. At least that’s what I thought at first. But the longer we talked, the more I wanted to believe him. He was nice and definitely had the passion to stop using. Hopefully I was wrong about the burn mark and he is in fact doing well. He’d lost some friends to drugs so he knows how serious it is.
That was basically it. I went to a hotel and got off my feet. My feet and legs are not feeling amazing. I considered taking an ice bath. But I’m not that gangsta. I just laid in a bed instead.
